Singer Chris Cornell Dies – Possible Suicide

Chris Cornell was a vocalist and song writer, known for being the lead singer for pop and rock band Soundgarden and also vocalist for Audioslave. He was the frontman for Temple of the Dog, a one-off tribute band dedicated to his late friend Andrew Wood. His death is currently being looked into as suicide, Detroit Police have told the media.

The singer, just 52 died after a concert in Detroit on Wednesday evening. Chris Cornell’s representative Brian Bumbery said his death was “sudden and unexpected”.  He also went on to say that the family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause and asked for privacy.

The Detroit Police confirmed that they received a call just after 12PM (05:00 BST). “He was found on the bathroom floor. Our medical unit were called and he was pronounced dead at the scene,” said a spokesman. “A family friend went to go check on him and saw him lifeless on the bathroom floor. Chris Cornells body was transferred to the medical examiner’s office where the cause of death will be determined. It is being investigated as a possible suicide.”

Sir Elton John wrote on Twitter “Shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Chris Cornell. A great singer, songwriter and the loveliest man.”

Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page tweeted: “RIP Chris Cornell. Incredibly talented, incredibly young, incredibly missed.”

On Wednesday night, the gig venue in Detroit showed pictures of the band while they were live on stage via Twitter.
