Jimi Jamison, Lead Singer of Survivor Dies Aged 63

Jimi Jamison, the lead singer of 1980s bands Cobra and Survivor, died on Sunday night at age 63.

The singer’s booking manager Sally Irwin said he died of a heart attack, according to an article on Monday in TMZ.

He had performed with Survivor on Saturday night in Northern California, Irwin said.

Jamison joined Survivor in 1984 after the group found success with their single Eye Of The Tiger that was the theme song for Rocky III.

He was the lead singer on classic songs such as I Can’t Hold Back, The Search Is Over, Is This Love and Burning Heart from Rocky IV.

Survivor also scored a hit with Jamison on the single The Moment Of Truth featured in The Karate Kid.

He was the band’s lead singer from 1984 until 1988.

Jamison also was the co-writer and singer of the song I’m Always Here that was the theme song for Baywatch.

He joined Survivor after their lead singer David Bickler left the group after developing polyps on his vocal chords shortly after Survivor recorded Eye of The Tiger, according to an article in Rolling Stone.

Jamison was a member of the rock band Cobra in the early 1980s but after the band dissolved he was invited to join Survivor.

He recorded three albums with Survivor until the group disbanded in 1989.

The group reformed in 1993 with Bickler as lead singer, but Jamison eventually rejoined Survivor also.
