Sam Smith in Talks to Record the New James Bond Theme Tune

Sam Smith could be following in the footsteps of Alicia Keys, Madonna and Paul McCartney, as he’s in talks with movie bosses to perform the anthem for the next James Bond movie.

Bigwigs at MGM are talking about signing up the Stay With Me hitmaker to record the title track for Bond 24, which is set for release next year.

A source at MGM told The Sun newspaper: “Sam is our top choice. He has the profile, cool image and astonishing voice to record a Bond theme.

“And there is only so long we can hold out for Adele. Daniel Craig was pushing for her because she did such a great job last time around.

“But from her perspective, how can she better what she did with Skyfall? She won an Oscar, Bafta, Golden Globe and had a global number one.”

Bosses think it would be great to have another British male singer perform the track and 22-year-old Londoner Sam would be perfect for the role, after his debut album, In The Lonely Hour, became a chart success both in the UK and the US when it was released in May.

It’s almost 30 years since a British male singer sang a Bond theme song, with Simon Le Bon recording View to a Kill with Duran Duran and before that Tom Jones sang Thunderball in 1965.
