Doctor uses singing talents to raise money for diabetes research.

My Singing Lessons has been informed that a local doctor Maggie Morris is to raise money to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  Dr. Morris will be hosting a benefit voice recital on August the 3rd in Suffolk, VA.

“I’ve been singing since I was 3,” she said. “I debated between music and science several times” siad the Doctor.  During graduate school she joined and sang with the Dallas Symphony Chorus, and she joined the Virginia Symphony Chorus for a season and a half after moving here. “I would like to get back to it, but right now time is not cooperating with me,” she said. And she also has sung at Carnegie Hall in the past.

Gusests at next weekends show will be listening to music ranging from the classical, such as Mozart and Mendelssohn, to show tunes and Disney songs. Ed Glover will accompany Morris Fears on the piano. “I would like to appeal to a wide crowd,” she said. “It’s not going to be too long, probably 45 minutes to an hour. It’s a pretty casual atmosphere at a pretty casual time of day.”

She said she was thinking of ways to raise money for the diabetes research fund hit upon the idea of a benefit concert. “I’m like, ‘Wait a minute. I can combine singing and science,’” she said. Tickets for the event are £10, and all the money will support JDRF, Morris Fears said.
