T’Pau Singer Carol Decker to Perform for Hospice Service
T’Pau singer Carol Decker will be performing an acoustic set at an intimate venue in aid of the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.
The songstress, whose group topped the UK charts in 1987 with China In Your Hand, will appear at the charity’s Heaven Sent Ball at the Clarion Collection Harte and Garter Hotel in Windsor on May 10.
The charity was started by Fiona and John Devine, from Dedworth, who lost their son Alexander at the age of eight to a rare brain tumour.
Carol, who lives in nearby Henley-on-Thames, will be accompanied by The Quotes guitarist James Ashby in a performance of T’Pau songs, including Heart and Soul and Valentine, as well as some surprise covers.
The 56-year-old said: “My contact with the charity is a personal one as my nextdoor neighbour Amanda Collins works for them and I asked her how her job was going along.
“I’m a mum with two kids and when I heard about Alexander Devine’s story it put a lump in my throat and it made me count my blessings.”
Carol attended the charity’s capital campaign launch in November and is more than happy to sing at the Heaven Sent Ball, the proceeds from which will go towards the building of the first children’s hospice in Berkshire.
“I think it’s an incredibly important cause”, said Carol.
“In an ideal world we wouldn’t need hospices but families need all the support they can get and it’s a place of light and love where they can maximise their time together.
“It’s a great facility for the area and it’s local to me so I will do everything I can to support them.”
Tickets for the Heaven Sent Ball are on sale at £70 per person.
