Dutchman Cleared Of Stalking Amy Macdonald

A dutch tourist accused of stalking Scots singer Amy Macdonald has had charges against him dropped. Pieter van der Weijden was arrested in August last year.

He appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on charges of stalking and breach of the peace. Van der Weijden, 33, was bailed and went home to Holland.

Yesterday, prosecutors revealed that the charges have been dropped.

A Crown Office spokesman said: “After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances, Crown Counsel instructed that there should be no further proceedings meantime in relation to this matter.

“The Crown reserves the right to proceed in the future. “The complainer has been advised of this decision.”

It is understood the stalking element of the charges related to Twitter messages sent by Van der Weijden to the singer.

The charges against him related to alleged incidents between December 2011 and December 2012.

The Dutchman’s lawyer Aamer Anwar said: “Pieter has protested his innocence from the beginning, regarding himself as a fan of Amy and nothing more than that.

“If you have celebrity status, it is inevitable that you will have fans who will want to follow you to the ends of the earth.”

This is the Life Singer Amy, 26, has previously spoken about being troubled by stalkers. The star, from Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, said: “I have a few scary stalker stories. I do get a bit freaked out.”
